 Reading - This week we will work on identifying the key ideas and details of literature. We will also learn to use information gained from the illustrations and words in print to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.  We will continue to work on making text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections along with asking relevant questions to show deeper understanding. On Friday we will be working in the computer lab on an individualized reading program called Achieve 3000.

Writing - This week students will continue to work on their opinion piece about whether it is better to give or to receive a gift. Students will state their opinion and supply reasons for support of that opinion. In mechanics, usage, and grammar students will be reviewing using capital letters at the beginning of sentences.  

Math - This week we will continue to work on subtracting two digit numbers without and with regrouping. We will begin working on finding the missing addend in an equation.  Students work daily on a number of the day, problem solving, and activities that support the Common Core State Standards. Students are also completing a pre-assessment of Operations and Algebraic Thinking.  

Inquiry - This week we will learn about the three branches of Federal Government.  We will complete our study of Holidays in Other Lands with the Chinese New Year.

We will work on making text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections along with asking relevant questions to show deeper understanding. On Monday and Friday we will be working in the computer lab on an individualized reading program called Achieve 3000.

Writing - This week students will continue to work on their opinion piece about whether it is better to give or to receive a gift. Students will state their opinion and supply reasons for support of that opinion. In mechanics, usage, and grammar students are working on using quotation marks correctly.

Math - This week we will continue to work on subtracting two digit numbers without and with regrouping. Students work daily on a number of the day, problem solving, and activities that support the Common Core State Standards. Students are also completing an assessment of Numbers in Base Ten skills and understanding.

Inquiry - We continue to study Federal Government by completing an Activation Guide and KWL chart. In our study of Holidays in Other Lands we will visit France and Israel.

Community Service Project:  Room 101E...You Rock!  We collected $43 and were able to buy Jacob a Lego Set, Connect Four, an Angry Birds T-shirt, and dinosaur pajamas.  Thank you for helping to make Jacob's Christmas a little merrier!

Progress Reports were sent home on Friday.  Please review your child's progress report, sign, and return the bottom portion of the report.

Community Service Project:  The students in Room 101E selected a name off the PTA Giving Tree.  We will be collecting donations through Friday, December 14th to purchase a gift for 6 year old Jacob.

Reading - This week we will continue to work on identifying the key ideas and details of non-fiction text. We will work on making text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections along with asking relevant questions to show deeper understanding.

Writing - Students have been working hard on finishing their personal experience stories.  Our next writing activity will focus on opinion.  We are also working on using apostophes to show ownership.

Math - This week we practiced subtracting single digit numbers and began working on subtracting double digit numbers without regrouping.  Students work daily on a number of the day, problem solving, and activities that support the Common Core State Standards

Inquiry - Students will finish their State Government posters.  We will begin our next inquiry on Federal Government by completing an Activation Guide.
We will also begin working on a mini-study of Holidays in other Lands.
