Reading -  Students spend independent reading time on Achieve 3000, reading articles and completing activities.  Student levels have improved since November.  We are also working on making predictions when we read.  This week students will work on summarizing skills while they listen to the story "Help! I'm a Prisoner in the Library."  Each day we work through the Daily 5 which includes reading to self, reading to someone, word work, writing, and technology.

Writing - We have launched a writer's workshop in our classroom.  Our first writing activity is a narrative piece about what snowmen do at night (based on the book Snowmen at Night).  In poetry students finished their acrostic poems and will begin working on couplets.

Math - We are working on wrapping up our unit on fractions. Students work daily on  number of the day, problem solving, math writing, and I-Pad activities that support the Common Core State Standards.  On Tuesdays and Thursday students also work on multiplication facts.

Inquiry - Our next unit of inquiry will be on weather.
