Reading -  Students spend independent reading time on Achieve 3000, reading articles, completing activities, and responding to thought questions.  In our reading groups we are working on analyzing characters.   This week we also worked on why readers abandon books when they read.  Each day we work through the Daily 5 which includes reading to self, reading to someone, word work, writing, and technology.

Writing - Students are working on informative writing.  They have been gathering and organizing information on their inquiry topics.  We have also been working on a program called Scribble Press where students will be creating books on their self-selected inquiry topics.

Math - This week we have been working on attributes of plane shapes, classifying quadrilaterals, calculating perimeter, and finding area.  Students work daily on  number of the day, problem solving, math writing, and I-Pad activities that support the Common Core State Standards.  On Tuesdays and Thursday students also work on multiplication facts.

Inquiry - Students have selected weather related topics of interest. The are currently researching their topics and will be creating books and projects to share with you on inquiry night which will be held on Monday, may 12th.

Thank you Kyle and Mrs. Koch for sharing Honey Bunny with us!
