Reading -  Students spend independent reading time on Achieve 3000, reading articles, completing activities, and responding to thought questions.  We are continuing to work on summarizing in our own words when we read a paragraph or story.   This week we worked on "buzzing" about books.  Students buzz in small groups about the books they are reading independently.  Each day we work through the Daily 5 which includes reading to self, reading to someone, word work, writing, and technology.

Writing - Students are working to improve their narrative writing through writer's workshop.  We spent time talking about what third grade writer's Do and Don't Do.  We are also working on understanding and using figurative language, similes, metaphors, idioms, alliteration, onomatopoeias, clichés, personification, and hyperboles.

Math - This week we continued to work on applying the associative property when multiplying three numbers like 7 x 5 x 2 = ?  Students work daily on  number of the day, problem solving, math writing, and I-Pad activities that support the Common Core State Standards.  On Tuesdays and Thursday students also work on multiplication facts.

Inquiry - Our next unit of inquiry on weather will be coming soon.
