Reading - This week we will work on character traits and feelings, and cause and effect.  We will also continue to work on making logical inferences when we read.  

Writing - This week students will work on an opinion piece about their favorite food. Students will state their opinion, supply reasons that support an opinion, using linking words (e.g. because and also) to connect opinion and reasons, and porvide a concluding statement.  In mechanics, usage, and grammar students will be reviewing capital letters and wroking with plurals. 

Math - This week we will continue to focus on creating equal groups, arrays, and using repeated addition find the number of objects in an array. Students work daily on a number of the day, problem solving, and activities that support the Common Core State Standards.

On Friday students will be taking the math portion of the MAPS test.

Please see previous post for links to Rocket Math. Students should be practicing Rocket Math nightly as part of their homework. Practice can also be done orally.

Inquiry - This week we will begin to explore magnets.

Reading - This week we will continue to work on describing how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges. We will also work on making logical inferences when we read. On Thursday we will be taking the reading portion of the winter MAPS test. 

Writing - This week students will work on an opinion piece about their favorite season.  Students will state their opinion and supply reasons for support of that opinion.  In mechanics, usage, and grammar students will be using capital letters for holidays and names of places.

Math - This week we will continue to focus on creating equal groups, arrays, and using repeated addition find the number of objects in an array. Students work daily on a number of the day, problem solving, and activities that support the Common Core State Standards.

Inquiry - This week we will wrap up our study of federal government. Our next unit of inquiry will be magnets.

Reading - This week we will continue to work on describing how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges. We will continue to work on making text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections along with asking relevant questions to show deeper understanding. On Wednesday and Friday we will be working in the computer lab on an individualized reading program called Achieve 3000. Achieve 3000 provides students with high interest news articles at their reading level. After reading students answer comprehension questions.

Writing - Last week students worked on writing poetry about sledding.  Be sure to check their poems on Conference Night.  This week students will continue to work on finishing their opinion piece about whether it is better to give or to receive a gift. Students will state their opinion and supply reasons for support of that opinion.  Students will hear the story "Snowmen at Night." Their next writing assignment will be to write an informative piece about what they think snowmen do at night. In mechanics, usage, and grammar students will be  using capital letters for days of the week, months, and in book titles.

Math - This week we will focus on creating equal groups, arrays, and using repeated addition find the number of objects in an array.  Students work daily on a number of the day, problem solving, and activities that support the Common Core State Standards.

Inquiry - This week we will finish our mini-books about federal government. We will also make a graphic organizer showing the branches of federal government.

Reading - This week we will work on describing how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.  We will continue to work on making text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections along with asking relevant questions to show deeper understanding. On Monday and Friday we will be working in the computer lab on an individualized reading program called Achieve 3000.  Achieve 3000 provides students with high interest news articles at their reading level.  After reading students answer questions and write (type) a response to a related question.

Math - This week we will focus on strategies for determining whether a number is odd or even.  Students work daily on a number of the day, problem solving, and activities that support the Common Core State Standards. 

Inquiry - This week we will continue to learn about federal government.
