Reading - This week
we will continue to work on describing how characters in a story respond to major events and
challenges. We will continue to work on making text-to-text, text-to-self, and
text-to-world connections along with asking relevant questions to show deeper
understanding. On Wednesday and Friday we will be working in the computer lab on an
individualized reading program called Achieve 3000. Achieve 3000 provides
students with high interest news articles at their reading level. After reading
students answer comprehension questions.
Writing - Last week students worked on writing poetry about sledding. Be sure to check their poems on Conference Night. This week
students will continue to work on finishing their opinion piece about whether it
is better to give or to receive a gift. Students will state their opinion and
supply reasons for support of that opinion. Students will hear the
story "Snowmen at Night." Their next writing assignment will be to write an
informative piece about what they think snowmen do at night. In mechanics,
usage, and grammar students will be using capital letters for days of the week, months, and in book titles.
Math - This week we
will focus on creating equal groups, arrays, and using repeated addition find the number of objects in an array.
Students work daily on a number of the day, problem solving, and activities that
support the Common Core State Standards.
Inquiry -
This week we will finish our mini-books about federal government. We will also make a graphic organizer showing the branches of federal government.
