CLASS OF 2023
 
Reading -  Students spend independent reading time on Achieve 3000, reading articles, completing activities, and responding to thought questions.  In our reading groups we are working on determining importance.  Each day we work through the Daily 5 which includes reading to self, reading to someone, word work, writing, and technology. 

 Writing - This week we have been working on an opinion piece based on the book "I Wanna Iguana." 
  
Math - This week we worked on measuring weight and capacity.  Students work daily on  number of the day, problem solving, math writing, and I-Pad activities that support the Common Core State Standards.  On Tuesdays and Thursday students also work on multiplication facts.
 
Inquiry - This week in our economics study we learned about consumers and producers.  We also worked on identifying continents and oceans.

Math - This week we worked on reading and comparing time..  Students work daily on  number of the day, problem solving, math writing, and I-Pad activities that support the Common Core State Standards.  On Tuesdays and Thursday students also work on multiplication facts.
 
Inquiry - We are working on understanding how economy works.  We talked about needs and wants, goods and services, and supply and demand.  We are also working on understanding cardinal and intermediate directions.

Writing/Inquiry - Students are working on completing their Scribble Press books on weather for the May 12th Inquiry Fair.  We also built our background knowledge by exploring the water cycle, clouds, rainbows, and wind.
  
Math - This week we worked on measuring and analyzing temperature.  Students work daily on  number of the day, problem solving, math writing, and I-Pad activities that support the Common Core State Standards.  On Tuesdays and Thursday students also work on multiplication facts.

Reading -  Students spend independent reading time on Achieve 3000, reading articles, completing activities, and responding to thought questions.  In our reading groups we are working on analyzing characters.  Each day we work through the Daily 5 which includes reading to self, reading to someone, word work, writing, and technology. 

Writing - Students are working on informative writing.  They have been continuing to research their inquiry topics.  We have also been working on a program called Scribble Press where students will be creating books on their self-selected inquiry topics.
  
Math - This week we worked on parallelograms, perimeter and area.  After break we will be working on measurement.  Students work daily on  number of the day, problem solving, math writing, and I-Pad activities that support the Common Core State Standards.  On Tuesdays and Thursday students also work on multiplication facts.

Inquiry - Students have selected weather related topics of interest. The are currently researching their topics and will be creating books and projects to share with you on inquiry night which will be held on Monday, May 12th.

Reading -  Students spend independent reading time on Achieve 3000, reading articles, completing activities, and responding to thought questions.  In our reading groups we are working on analyzing characters.   This week we also worked on why readers abandon books when they read.  Each day we work through the Daily 5 which includes reading to self, reading to someone, word work, writing, and technology. 

Writing - Students are working on informative writing.  They have been gathering and organizing information on their inquiry topics.  We have also been working on a program called Scribble Press where students will be creating books on their self-selected inquiry topics.
  
Math - This week we have been working on attributes of plane shapes, classifying quadrilaterals, calculating perimeter, and finding area.  Students work daily on  number of the day, problem solving, math writing, and I-Pad activities that support the Common Core State Standards.  On Tuesdays and Thursday students also work on multiplication facts.

Inquiry - Students have selected weather related topics of interest. The are currently researching their topics and will be creating books and projects to share with you on inquiry night which will be held on Monday, may 12th.

Reading -  Students spend independent reading time on Achieve 3000, reading articles, completing activities, and responding to thought questions.  In our reading groups we are working on analyzing characters.   This week we also worked on why readers abandon books when they read.  Each day we work through the Daily 5 which includes reading to self, reading to someone, word work, writing, and technology. 

Writing - Students are working to improve their narrative writing through writer's workshop.  We continued to work on using "small moments" when we don't know what to write about.  Students have been writing true stories based on their own personal small moments.
  
Math - This week we worked on using multiplication to help us solve division problems.  Students make that connect by understanding fact families.  Students work daily on  number of the day, problem solving, math writing, and I-Pad activities that support the Common Core State Standards.  On Tuesdays and Thursday students also work on multiplication facts.

Inquiry - Our next unit of inquiry on weather will be coming soon.
